Drug Uses
Albenza is used for treating parenchymal neurocysticercosis which is caused by active lesions due to the activity of larval forms of the pork tapeworm. It can be also applied for fighting cystic hydatid disease of the lung, liver and peritoneum, which are the effect of the activity of the larval form of the dog tapeworm.
How Taken
Albenza has to be taken together with food.
Warnings/Precautions
Albenza can cause severe harm of the tfetal, that’s why it is absolutely forbidden for pregnant women. During the treatment period, you should monitor the blood counts and make tests of the liver function on every two weeks due to the chance of harming the liver or bone marrow. Consult your physician regarding the possibility of fetus harm, in case you plan a pregnancy while still taking Albenza or 1 month after finishing therapy.
Missed Dose
In case you forget a dose, take it the moment you remember. If it is close to the timing of the next dose, just miss the dose u have forgotten about and go back to your normal dose timing. Do not take two doses at a time in order to make up for the one that u have missed.
Possible Side Effects
There are almost no side effects that are observed but if there are any, they are mild and should disappear shortly.
Storage
Albenza should be kept in a room temperature between 20° and 25°C (68° and 77°F).
