Drug Uses
Detrol LA is produced in capsules and is used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency.
How Taken
Detrol LA can be found in the form of tablets and extended-release (long-acting) capsules, which are for oral use. The average dose is one tablet twice a day. The extended-release capsule should be taken only once a day together with liquids. You should read carefully the instructions on the prescription label and contact your doctor if you have any questions for further information. Detrol LA should be taken exactly as directed. Be careful not to take bigger or smaller quantities of this drug or take it more frequently than prescribed. The capsules have to be swallowed whole and must not be split, chewed or crushed.
Warnings/Precautions
You should not use Detrol LA if you have a blockage in the intestines or a blockage of the urinary tract (difficulty urinating). Inform your doctor if you suffer from kidney disease; liver disease; or glaucoma. In these cases Detrol LA may not be appropriate for you, or you may need a special dose schedule or special medical observation during the treatment period. Detrol LA is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information if Detrol LA can cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Detrol LA gets into breast milk and whether it may have negative influences on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Missed Dose
I If you forget to take a dose, just dot as soon as you remember. If it is too close to the next dose, leave the missed one and follow your normal dose schedule. Do not take two doses at a time in order to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
If you experience an allergic reaction (breathing difficulties; throat closing; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives), quit taking Detrol LA and find instant emergency help. There can also appear other less serious side effects. Keep on taking Detrol LA and consult your doctor if you feel dizzy or drowsy, have upset stomach, constipation, difficult urinating, dry mouth, blurred vision or large pupils, dryness of the eyes. You can also experience other side effects that are not listed above. Consult your doctor about any unusual conditions that you may have during treatment.
Storage
Keep at average room temperature from 20° to 25° C (68° to 77° F).
Overdose
In case of an overdose, find instant medical help. The symptoms might include fever, tremor, seizures, hallucinations, nausea, vomiting, irritability, restlessness, delirium, flushing,a fast heartbeat and possibly coma.
More Information
Be cautious while driving, working with machines or performing other dangerous activities. Detrol LA is possible to cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. If you feel dizzy, drowsy or you have blurred vision, do not perform the listed activities. The consuming of alcohol can increase the feeling of dizziness and drowsiness. Use alcohol wisely. Be careful not to get overheated in hot weather . While taking Detrol LA your sweating is decreased and this increases the risk of heat stroke. To avoid this, drink plenty of liquids so that you can be well hydrated.
