Drug Uses
Lamisil Tablets are used to treat onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail caused by dermatophytes.
How Taken
Lamisil is produced in tablets for oral use. The normal dosage is on tablet once a day for 6 weeks in case of fingernail fungus and once a day for 12 weeks for toenail fungus. Lamisil should be taken exactly as directed. You must not take smaller or bigger doses or use it more frequently than prescribed. Your fungus may need a few extra months to be fully healed after finishing treatment with Lamisil. Nails need tome to grow in again.
Warnings/Precautions
Before starting any treatment with Lamisil, you should warn your doctor if you have ever experienced an allergic reaction, immune system problems, kidney or liver diseases, blood problems. In these conditions, it is very possible that you may not be able to take Lamisil, or you have to be given a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment. Lamisil is in the FDA pregnancy category B. It should not cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your physician in case of pregnancy.. Lamisil goes into breast milk and may affect a nursing baby. You must not take this drug without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Missed Dose
In case you forget a dose, take it the moment you remember and take the other two doses for the day at even intervals. If it is close to the timing of the next dose, just miss the dose u have forgotten about and go back to your normal dose timing. Do not take two doses at a time in order to make up for the one that u have missed.
Possible Side Effects
If you observe any of the listed side effects, discontinue the acceptance of Lamisil and seek emergency medical attention: vision changes, an allergic reaction (breathing difficulties; throat closing; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); a rash; or blood problems (detected by blood tests). There are declared rare cases, in which Lamisil has lead to severe liver damage, sometimes resulting in liver transplant or death. Instantly alarm your doctor if you experience vomiting itching, dark urine, nausea, unusual fatigue, yellow skin or eyes, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, or clay colored stools. These symptoms may indicate an early stage of liver damage. Less serious side effects are more common. Do not stop taking Lamisil and consult your doctor in case of upset stomach, nausea, or heartburn; headache; diarrhea or flatulence; or loss of taste or taste disturbances.There may also occur other than the listed side effects. If you experience any strange and unusual conditions, consult your doctor.
Storage
Lamisil tablets should be stored below 25o C (77o F); in a tight container. Keep away from light.
Overdose
Overdose cases are rare. Possible symptoms include: nausea, headache, abdominal pain, vomiting, rash, dizziness, and frequent urination. Seek emergency medical attention.
More Information
You should try to avoid alcohol while on treatment. The combination of alcohol and Lamisil can affect your liver. Do not take Lamisil if you suffer from hypersensitivity.
