Drug Uses
Patanol is a medication that is used to stop the affects off allergies in your daily life. Patanol is produced as a liquid drop that you apply in your eyes to prevent them from itching caused by allergy suffering. Itchy eyes can cause redness but if you do not rub your eyes, it will easily go away.
Warnings/Precautions
Patanol should not be used if you have viral, bacterial or fungal infection in your eye unless you are receiving proper anti-infective treatment. Patanol is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information if it can cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether Patanol gets into breast milk and whether it may have negative influences on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Patanol should not be prescribed for children younger than 3 years of age.
Missed Dose
In case you have forgotten a dose, take it as soon as you realize it.
Possible Side Effects
Serious side effects are very rare. In case of an allergic reaction (breathing difficulties; throat closing; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives), contact your doctor immediately. There can appear other less serious side effects such as: stinging, burning, irritation, redness, itching, or dryness of the eyes; a stuffy or runny nose; swollen eyelids, headache; or changes in taste. In any of those cases, contact your doctor. Other symptoms, not mentioned above are also possible. If you experience any unusual conditions that you worry about, contact your doctor.
Storage
Keep at 39°F to 86°F (4°C to 30°C).
Overdose
Overdoses are very unlikely to occur. If you doubt an overdose, call the closest emergency room or poison control center. If you have taken the drops orally, drink plenty of fluid and call you doctor for an advice.
More Information
Make sure the dropper does not get in touch to any surface, including your eyes or hands. The dropper is sterile. If contaminated, it could cause an eye infection. Patanol contains a preservative (benzalkonium chloride), so you should not wear contact lenses during drug application. You can put your lenses 15 minutes after a dose. Avoid using other eye drops unless your doctor approves.
