Drug Uses
Remeron Tablets are used for treating major depressive disorder. It relieves symptoms of depression such as feelings of worthlessness, sadness or guilt; loss of interest in daily activities; tiredness; sleeping too much; changes in appetite, insomnia; and thoughts of death or suicide.
How Taken
Remeron can be found in a regular tablet formulation (Remeron) that should be swallowed with water. The usual dose for starting treatment with Remeron Tablets is 15 mg/day, taken in a single dose, preferably in the evening before going to sleep.
Warnings/Precautions
You should not take if you are taking or have been taken within the last 14 days, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. It is important, before starting any treatment to inform your doctor if you suffer from kidney disease, liver disease or have a manic-depressive disorde; high or low blood pressure, blood problems or heart disease;if you have had a heart attack in the last 6 weeks; or have epilepsy or seizures. In those cases, it is possible that your health condition is not suitable to take Remeron, or you may need a special dosage adjustment or a special medical observation during treatment. Remeron is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information if Remeron can cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. This drug is not known whether it gets into breast milk. In case you are breast feeding a baby, do not take Remeron before first consulting your doctor. Patients over 60 years of age are more likely to observe side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, unsteadiness, feeling uncoordinated and low blood pressure. You may require a lower dose of this medication.
Missed Dose
In case you have forgotten a dose, take it as soon as you notice. If it is too close to the next one, ignore the missed one and resume your usual dose schedule. Do not take two doses at a time.
Possible Side Effects
In case you have any of the listed reactions, discontinue taking Remeron and call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical help: an allergic reaction (swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; breathing difficulties); a fast or irregular heartbeat; seizures or fever, a sore throat, chills, flu-like symptoms, or sores in your mouth or nose. Less serious side effects are more likely to occur. Do not stop taking Remeron and alarm your physician, in case of: nausea; drowsiness; increase in weight or appetite; dry mouth; dizziness; constipation; or mild tremor. There may also occur symptoms that are not mentioned above. If you have any unusual conditions or reactions, do not doubt to contact your doctor.
Storage
Keep at normal room temperature 20°- 25° C(68°- 77° F). Dispense in a tight, light resistant container.
Overdose
Overdose reactions may include: drowsiness, disorientation, impaired memory, and tachycardia. There have been reported also ECG abnormalities, coma or convulsions following overdose with Remeron alone. In such cases, find instant medical help.
More Information
As Remeron may lead to drowsiness or dizziness, be cautious while driving, working with machines , or performing other hazardous activities. You may feel dizzy when rising up suddenly from a sitting or lying position. Make sure you rise slowly so that you can avoid dizziness and a possible fall. Do not combine Remeron with alcohol. It may increase the feeling of drowsiness and dizziness.
