Drug Uses
Soma is a muscle relaxant purposed to relieve the pain and stiffness of muscle spasms and discomfort due to strain and sprain.
How Taken
Soma is suitable for oral use. The usual adult dose is one 350 mg tablet, taken three times daily and at bedtime. The drug is not suitable for children under age 12. Its better to combine Soma with food or milk, in order to avoid any stomach problems.
Warnings/Precautions
You should not take Soma in case you have acute intermittent porphyria. Before taking Soma, your doctor should be informed if you have kidney or liver disease. In those cases, it is possible that you may require a lower dose or special medical observation during your treatment. It is not known whether Soma will harm an unborn baby. In case of pregnancy, consult first with you doctor before starting any treatment with Soma. It is not declared whether Soma passes into breast milk. If you are breast feeding a baby, again consult your doctor. Soma should not be prescribed for children younger than 12 years of age.
Missed Dose
If you forget a dose of Soma, take it as soon as you realize within 1 hour. Otherwise skip that dose and follow your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at a time
Possible Side Effects
Possible reactions of treatment with Soma are: vertigo, dizziness, ataxia, agitation, tremor, irritability, depressive reactions, headache, syncope and insomnia. There may develop allergic or idiosyncratic reactions. They usually appear within the period of the first to fourth dose in patients who didn’t have any previous contact with the drug. There are also declared cases of erythema multiforme, skin rash, eosinophilia, pruritus, and fixed drug eruption with cross reaction to meprobamate. Other possible side effects are: fever, asthmatic episodes, weakness, angioneurotic edema, dizziness, smarting eyes, hypotension, and anaphylactoid shock.
Storage
Keep at normal room temperature 15°-30°C (59°-86°F). Dispense in a tight container.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, seek emergency medical help. Overdose symptoms may include low blood pressure (weakness, fainting, and confusion), decreased breathing, and unconsciousness.
More Information
As Skelaxin may lead to drowsiness or dizziness, be cautious while driving, working with machines, or performing other hazardous activities. If you feel drowsy or dizzy, avoid these activities. Do not combine Skelaxin with alcohol. It may increase the feeling of drowsiness and dizziness.
