Drug Uses
Tetracycline is purposed to prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
How Taken
The usual adult dose is 1g to 2g a day. In case you have severe infections, your doctor may decide that you need bigger doses. The treatment should continue at least 24 to 48 hours after the symptoms and fever have disappeared.
Warnings/Precautions
If you are hypersensitive to tetracyclines, you have to alarm your doctor before starting any treatment . If you do not have a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection or a prophylactic indication, this drug may not bring you any benefit and may increase the risk of the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
Missed Dose
I you miss doses or do not finish the whole treatment, there can be observed a decrease of the drug efficiency compared to the immediate treatment. There is also a chance that the bacteria may develop resistance to Tetracycline or other antibacterial drugs in the future.
Possible Side Effects
Possible side effects are: epigastric distress, anorexia, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, bulky loose stools, stomatitis, glossitis, sore throat, black hairy tongue, hoarseness, dysphagia, enterocolitis, and inflammatory lesions (with candidal overgrowth) in the anogenital region.
Storage
Keep the tablets at normal room temperature; prevent from excessive heat. Dispense in tight, light-resistant containers. Make sure the drug is stored away from children.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, find instant medical help.
