Drug Uses
Ultram is purposed to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain. It can be used in case of pain due to surgery or chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. It works on the basis of decreasing the brain's perception and response to pain. It reduces the size or magnitude of the pain signal that passes from one nerve to another. How Taken
Ultram is produced in tablets for oral use. The usual dose is one tablet at every 4-6 hours as needed. It may be taken alone or in combination with food. Read carefully the instructions on your prescription label and discuss with your physician any detail that you may not be clear about. You should take Ultram exactly as prescribed. You can get addicted to Ultram. You should not take bigger doses, take it more frequently than instructed or for longer periods.
Warnings/Precautions
Before starting treatment with Ultram, inform your doctor in case you have kidney disease; liver disease; or a history of alcohol or drug dependence. In those cases, it is possible that your condition may not allow the use of Ultram, or you may need a special dosage adjustment or special medical observation during treatment. Ultram is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information if this drug can cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. Ultram is not known to get into breast milk and it may have negative influences on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Older people over 75 years of age are more likely to experience side effects from Ultram. The maximum daily dose of this drug for people over 75 years of age is 300 mg. This drug is not approved by the FDA for children younger than 16 years of age
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects are very rare, but still they can appear. Most possible symptoms are those regarding the central nervous system (Migraine, Speech disorders) and gastrointestinal system (Gastrointestinal bleeding, Hepatitis, Stomatitis, Liver failure). Inform you physician if you have any of the following conditions, if they are severe or become persistent: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, upset stomach, blurred vision, vomiting, and diarrhea. Call your doctor immediately in case of: redness, fast heartbeat, swelling, and itching of the face, difficulty breathing, and numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, changes in urination, seizures.
Storage
Keep in a tight container. Place at 25°C (77°F); changes permitted to 15 - 30°C (59 - 86°F).
Overdose
In case of an overdose, find instant medical help. Overdose symptoms include: difficulty breathing; shallow, weak breathing; and seizures.
More Information
You should not consume alcohol while you are taking Ultram. Alcohol in combination with Ultram may lead to a dangerous decrease in breathing and/ or liver problems. As Ultram may cause dizziness or drowsiness, be cautious when driving, working with machines, or performing other hazardous activities. Avoid these activities in case you feel dizzy or drowsy. Do not take sleeping pills, tranquilizers, sedatives, and antihistamines except under the supervision of your doctor. These drugs are able to increase the feeling of drowsiness caused by Ultram
